DIGITISATION OF MUSEUMS AND ARCHIVES

The Ministry of Culture is digitising museum collections and archival resources using the JATAN software developed with C‑DAC, Pune. A national digital repository on the Museums of India portal hosts digitised artefacts from eight national museums, two ASI site museums and the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum, with 3,75,707 of 4,88,983 artefacts (≈76.83%) digitised as of 15 July 2026. Under the Museum Grant Scheme, Rs 25 lakh was sanctioned in the last three financial years for digitisation. The Gyan Bharatam Mission has made over 3.5 lakh manuscripts available online, while the National Archives of India has digitised about 17.67 crore images and is uploading them to the ‘Abhilekh Patal’ portal.
