PROMOTION OF HERITAGE

The Ministry of Culture oversees multiple schemes for preserving and promoting India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. For tangible heritage, the Archaeological Survey of India protects centrally protected monuments, while the Development of Excavation Sites and Heritage Complexes (DESH) Scheme – a centrally‑sponsored sub‑scheme announced in the Union Budget 2026 – supports sustainable development of 15 selected sites. The Museum Grant Scheme provides financial assistance for development, modernization and digitisation of museums at regional, state and district levels, with detailed fund utilisation data for the last three financial years (Annexure‑I). For intangible heritage, the Scheme for Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and the Cultural Functions and Production Grant (CFPG) Scheme fund documentation, preservation and cultural programmes. The Financial Assistance for Promotion of Guru‑Shishya Parampara (Repertory Grant) Scheme supports classical performing arts through traditional guru‑shishya transmission. All these sub‑schemes operate under the umbrella Kala Sanskriti Vikas Yojana (KSVY).
