Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Cooperation Shri Murlidhar Mohol launch ‘Bharat Taxi’ service in Maharashtra

On 23 July 2026, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol inaugurated the ‘Bharat Taxi’ service at Navi Mumbai International Airport. The scheme, promoted under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’ vision and the Ministry of Cooperation, converts taxi drivers (Sarathis) into owners‑shareholders of a cooperative institution, eliminating surge pricing and hidden charges. The launch highlights Maharashtra’s strong cooperative tradition – nearly 2.5 lakh societies out of the nation’s 8.60 lakh – and ties into broader ministry actions such as the National Cooperation Policy, creation of new cooperative societies, and computerisation of PACS. The initiative aims to generate employment for youth and women, improve service transparency, and expand through the state’s cooperative network.
