TRAI Assesses Mobile Network Quality along river Ganga from Kolkata to Kachubaria-Gangasagar under West Bengal LSA

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released results of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in June 2026 along the Ganga river from Kolkata to Kachubaria‑Gangasagar (124.4 km) under the West Bengal LSA. Using SIMs of all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) on 2G‑5G networks, TRAI measured coverage gaps, call‑drop rates, call‑setup success, and data download/upload throughput. Coverage gaps (samples with signal < ‑110 dBm for 5G/4G, < ‑90 dBm for 3G, < ‑85 dBm for 2G) were 1051/18186 for Airtel, 10326/16338 for BSNL, 1474/18149 for RJIL and 1819/18122 for VIL. Dropped‑call ratios were 1/129 (Airtel), 24/124 (BSNL), 2/130 (RJIL) and 9/133 (VIL). Average download speeds recorded were 55.93 Mbps (Airtel), 5.95 Mbps (BSNL), 86.53 Mbps (RJIL) and 24.23 Mbps (VIL); average upload speeds were 5.54 Mbps, 1.65 Mbps, 4.95 Mbps and 3.43 Mbps respectively. The findings were shared with the TSPs and are available on the TRAI website.
