Status of Telecom Infrastructure

The Government has approved the Amended BharatNet Program (ABP) on 04‑08‑2023, upgrading 13,494 Gram Panchayats (GPs) out of 2,65,014 planned, with 2,14,912 GPs already connected under BharatNet Phase‑I and Phase‑II as of June 2026. As of June 2026, 24,784 4G towers serve 35,022 villages/locations, including remote and border areas. The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) Scheme, launched on 1 Oct 2022, supports R&D in communication technologies; 26 start‑up‑academia projects on 6G receive Rs.57 crore. The Department of Telecommunications has introduced Sanchar Saathi, a web portal and mobile app for reporting telecom fraud. The Department of Posts has modernised all post offices on the Advanced Postal Technology platform, implementing Core Banking Solution and various digital services such as Net Banking, ATM, IPPB, e‑Money Orders, and parcel logistics.
