PARLIAMENT QUESTION: TRAINING PROGRAMMES IN NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY
The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) detailed its nuclear‑technology training infrastructure. BARC Training School in Mumbai has a capacity of 230 trainees for engineering design, reactor operation and basic sciences, while its training unit at the Atomic Minerals Directorate in Hyderabad can train 25 trainees in uranium exploration techniques. The Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP) in Bahadurgarh runs five specialised schools – each with a capacity of 20‑45 participants – covering advanced reactor systems, nuclear security, radiological safety, material characterization and radio‑isotope applications. NPCIL operates seven Nuclear Training Centres (NTCs) across its power plants, offering orientation programmes for engineers (capacity 30‑80), supervisors (25‑60) and technicians (50‑80). Over the last five years, 917 Trainee Scientific Officers were admitted to BARC, 863 of whom were absorbed as Scientific Officers, and 590 Category‑I and 1,308 Category‑II trainees were taken in, with 158 already placed in BARC. The data underscore DAE’s structured human‑resource development for indigenous nuclear capability.
