Indian Railways Approves ₹440 Crore Third Line Project Between Nimpura West Outer Cabin and Midnapur of South Eastern Railway

Indian Railways has approved a ₹440 crore project to lay a 14.52 km third line between Nimpura West Outer Cabin and Midnapur on the South Eastern Railway’s High Utilisation Network (HUN‑2). The existing single‑line section is operating at 115.71 % capacity, causing severe congestion. The new line is expected to add 3.52 MTPA of freight capacity, facilitating movement of commodities such as coal, iron ore, steel, cement and others, and to improve passenger operations. The project aims to boost economic growth by enhancing rail‑based logistics on this key freight corridor.
