36th Basic Course in Legislative Drafting Inaugurated to Strengthen Uniform and Effective Law-Making Across India

The Ministry of Law and Justice inaugurated the 36th Basic Course in Legislative Drafting on 22 July 2026 at Kartavya Bhavan‑02, New Delhi. Organized by the Institute of Legislative Drafting and Research (ILDR) of the Legislative Department, the three‑month programme (22 July‑25 September 2026) brings together 18 trainee officers from thirteen states and one Union territory. Senior officials, including Secretary Dr Rajiv Mani and Additional Secretary Dr Manoj Kumar, highlighted the need for uniform drafting to ensure clarity, consistency and legal certainty in laws. The course aims to build capacity by imparting principles and practical skills for drafting legislative instruments, thereby promoting precision and excellence in law‑making across the country.
