PARLIAMENT QUESTION: MAHARASHTRA RECEIVES RAILWAY BUDGET ALLOCATION OF ₹23,926 CRORE FOR 2026–27

The Ministry of Railways answered a Parliament question stating that Maharashtra will receive a railway budget allocation of ₹23,926 crore for 2026‑27, more than 20 times the ₹1,171 crore/year allocated in 2009‑14. As of 1 April 2026, 52 projects (13 new lines, 2 gauge conversions, 37 doublings) covering 5,956 km and costing ₹1,42,635 crore have been sanctioned. Recent completions include the Pune‑Miraj‑Londa doubling (₹6,463 crore) and several gauge conversions and doublings. Ongoing projects comprise new lines such as Ahilyanagar‑Parli Vaijnath (₹5,800 crore) and multiple third/fourth‑line works under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) totalling several thousand crores. Capacity‑augmentation works for Mumbai suburban area and the high‑speed rail (Mumbai‑Ahmedabad) are progressing, with land acquisition completed and major civil works underway. The government also announced seven new high‑speed rail corridors in the 2026‑27 Union Budget.
