Welfare of shrimp farmer

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying reports that under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) it approved fisheries and aquaculture projects worth Rs 6,885.18 crore (central share Rs 3,159.83 crore) for 2023‑24 to 2025‑26, releasing Rs 2,208.74 crore to States/UTs. It also provided group accidental insurance for 10.373 million fishers (covering death, disability and hospitalization) with a premium split 60:40 (centre‑state) and released Rs 54.03 crore for this purpose. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Yojana, a one‑time incentive of up to ₹25,000 per hectare (or ₹1 lakh for 4 ha) is offered for aquaculture insurance, with an extra 10 % for SC/ST and women beneficiaries. The measures aim to address rising input costs, disease outbreaks and market volatility in the shrimp farming sector.
