Fish Production

The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying has been implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) since FY 2020‑21. Over the last six years, fish production rose from 141.64 lakh tonnes in 2019‑20 to 197.75 lakh tonnes in 2024‑25. The scheme provides 60 % financial assistance to women beneficiaries, sanctioning Rs 4,178.30 crore for 1,47,654 women across states and UTs. Up to April 2026, approvals worth Rs 2,797 crore were given for cold‑chain and marketing infrastructure, covering 775 cold storages, 28,489 transport units and numerous retail and wholesale fish markets.
