Registered Fishermen Families

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying reported that, per the Government of Tamil Nadu, 1,480 inland fish farmers are registered with the District Fish Farmers Development Agency and 1,234 inland fishermen are registered in cooperative societies in Thanjavur district. Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Rs 196.30 Lakhs were disbursed (2021‑22 to 2023‑24) for projects including freshwater finfish hatcheries, seed‑rearing ponds, grow‑out ponds, Biofloc units and a recirculatory aquaculture system. The River Ranching Programme released 176 lakh fingerlings (59.76 lakh in the Cauvery) aiming to raise fish production by 220 tonnes. Subsidy assistance under PMMSY reached 355 beneficiaries in delta districts, and 9 lakh fingerlings were stocked in Panchayat tanks covering 450 ha during 2024‑26.
