INNOVATIVE TEXTILE RECYCLING TECHNOLOGIES

The Union Budget 2026‑27 announced the ‘Tex‑Eco Initiative’ to boost a globally competitive, sustainable textile and apparel sector. The initiative supports circular‑economy technologies such as textile waste management, recycling, recycled fibres, new materials and sustainable packaging, in partnership with research institutions, industry, start‑ups and other stakeholders. The government is running pilot projects like ‘Eliminating Hazardous Chemicals from Textile Fashion Supply Chain’ with UNIDO and GEF, and ‘Accelerating the Transition of the Indian Textile Sector towards Circularity’ (In‑Tex India) with UNEP, using LCA and PEF methods. Under the National Technical Textiles Mission, R&D projects on sustainable technologies are sanctioned, and the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks aim to foster sustainable industrialisation. An MoU among the Textile Committee, SCOPE and GeM promotes up‑cycled products in government procurement, and the Ministry released the report “Mapping of Textile Waste Value Chain in India” detailing waste generation, recovery pathways and recycling opportunities.
