Status of Upgradation Under PM-SETU
The Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM‑SETU) scheme, with a total outlay of Rs 60,000 crore (Rs 30,000 crore central, Rs 20,000 crore state, Rs 10,000 crore industry), aims to improve vocational training quality. It has two components: (i) upgrading 1,000 government ITIs (200 hub and 800 spoke) with smart classrooms, modern labs, digital content and new industry‑aligned courses; and (ii) capacity augmentation of five NSTIs with sector‑specific Centres of Excellence. Six Strategic Investment Plans (SIPs) from anchor industry partners across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Gujarat have been approved. Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have identified clusters and issued RFPs, while 36 States/UTs have formed State Steering Committees and 23 have floated industry‑interest proposals. The scheme will be implemented over five years.
