Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on West Bengal’s law and order situation in Kolkata, attended by the Chief Minister, State Chief Secretary and senior officials. He issued directives to strengthen the state’s security apparatus, judicial system and police capabilities, including the creation of a Women Outreach Programme for rural women, establishment of an Anti‑Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Anti‑Terrorist Squad (ATS) and a Special Investigation Agency (SIA) modelled on the NIA, and a comprehensive review by the NIA of all terrorism and UAPA cases. He assured budgetary support for police modernisation, a review of police cadre strength, conversion of one‑third of former Left‑Wing Extremism camps into Public Service Centres, capacity building in cybersecurity, regular NCORD meetings and a flood‑management plan for Kolkata.
