On 18 July 2026, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inspected the Juma Gach border outpost at Siliguri, West Bengal. He observed a radio‑based fence‑breach detection system that broadcasts a pre‑recorded alert to soldiers, an infrared alarm system that warns of intrusions, and a gate‑management system to facilitate safe movement of civilians and farmers across the India‑Bangladesh border. The minister also inaugurated electronic ceremonies for three BSF projects worth ₹47 crore, a 4 km fence‑wire construction worth ₹30 crore, and other BSF works totaling ₹77.06 crore. He reiterated the government’s commitment to a ‘smart border’ and a quadrilateral security grid for impenetrable borders.
