NITI Aayog launches a ten-year roadmap to build India into a leading bioeconomy powerhouse by 2035

NITI Aayog launched the ‘Roadmap for Building India as a Leading Bioeconomy Powerhouse by 2035’ on 17 July 2026 at the National Media Centre, New Delhi. Developed by the NITI Frontier Tech Hub with the Department of Biotechnology and industry‑academia partners, the roadmap proposes a mission‑mode strategy to raise the bio‑economy from $195.3 billion (4.8 % of GDP in 2025) to $691 billion by 2035 and $2.6 trillion by 2047, creating over 30 million high‑value jobs. It recommends six National BioMissions (GeneIndia, AgriBio 2.0, BioX Foundry, One Health Grid, Marine Biotechnology, BioPharmaNext) and a ₹50,000 crore BioEconomy Growth Fund, emphasizing AI‑biology convergence and advanced biomanufacturing.
