NCAHP Releases Competency-Based Curriculum for Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology to Strengthen Allied Healthcare Education

The National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has issued a competency‑based curriculum for the two‑year Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) via a notification dated 1 July 2026. Institutions offering DMLT must adopt the curriculum from the 2026‑27 academic year, with mandatory implementation from 2027‑28. The curriculum shifts from knowledge‑based teaching to a framework emphasizing Knowledge, Skills, Values and Attitudes (KSVA) across pre‑analytical, analytical and post‑analytical laboratory phases. This move aligns with the Union Budget 2026‑27 goal of creating one lakh additional allied‑health professionals over five years and is part of a broader rollout of 16 competency‑based curricula across allied health disciplines.
