Self-Enumeration Begins in Tamil Nadu and Tripura under Phase 1 of Census 2027

The Self‑Enumeration (SE) facility for the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) under Phase I of Census 2027 began on 17 July 2026 in Tamil Nadu and Tripura. The SE portal (se.census.gov.in) will remain open until 31 July 2026, after which enumerators will conduct house‑to‑house visits from 1 to 30 August 2026. Households completing SE must retain their SE ID for the subsequent field visit. Concurrently, HLO field operations continue in Kerala and Nagaland until 30 July 2026, covering non‑SE households. Census 2027 is being conducted using digital tools for the first time, with data collected via a mobile application while preserving traditional door‑to‑door enumeration. All information collected under the Census Act, 1948, is confidential and used solely for statistical and development planning purposes.
