TDB-DST Supports M/s K. N. Biosciences (India) Private Limited, Hyderabad, for Commercialization of Indigenous C-Phycocyanin Production Technology from Spirulina

The Technology Development Board (TDB) of the Department of Science & Technology has approved financial assistance to M/s K. N. Biosciences (India) Private Limited, Hyderabad, for commercialising an indigenous C‑phycocyanin production technology developed by IIT Guwahati using Spirulina strain NCIM 5143. The process combines optimized photoautotrophic cultivation with a green, solvent‑free extraction and single‑step purification to yield high‑purity, food‑grade blue pigment. The initiative aims to create a domestic value‑chain for natural pigments, reduce dependence on imported colourants, and promote sustainable, bio‑based manufacturing aligned with the Government’s bio‑economy and Aatmanirbhar Bharat goals.
