NHAI Strengthens Professional Management of InvIT-led Operations and Maintenance of National Highway Assets
The National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT), an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) sponsored by NHAI, has appointed General Management Consultants (GMCs) to professionalise operations and maintenance (O&M) of its National Highway assets. NHIT, registered with SEBI in October 2020, manages 2,653 km of highways; the first phase covers O&M of 908 km. The GMCs will conduct systematic inspections, identify maintenance and safety needs, manage procurement and supervision of specialised contractors, and ensure compliance with SEBI InvIT regulations. The move aims to improve asset performance, operational efficiency, and investor confidence, while fostering a specialised O&M ecosystem and generating business and employment opportunities in the infrastructure sector.
