LOK SABHA SPEAKER DEFINES LEGISLATURES AS ‘SCHOOLS OF DEMOCRACY’ WHERE LAWMAKERS LEARN VALUES OF DIALOGUE, CONSENSUS, AND SERVICE

Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, speaking at the inaugural session of the ‘Legislative Pride Journey’ in Jaipur, described legislatures as “schools of democracy” where lawmakers acquire values of dialogue, discipline, consensus and service. He linked the 75‑year history of the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha to India’s broader democratic traditions of Sabha, Samiti and Panchayat institutions, and highlighted its role in social‑justice legislation and inclusive development. Birla urged legislators to maintain decorum, rely on facts and logic, and embrace digital preservation of debates to strengthen institutional memory. He emphasized that the strength of Parliament depends on vibrant, dignified state legislatures, especially during the nation’s Amrit Kaal.
