Electronics Revolution: Mobiles Powering Exports & Giving High Value Jobs to the people of India

The Ministry of Electronics & IT reports that India has become the world’s second‑largest mobile phone manufacturer, with mobile phones now the country’s largest export item. Electronics production rose from ₹1.90 lakh crore in 2014‑15 to an estimated ₹13.11 lakh crore in 2025‑26, while exports grew from ₹38,263 crore to ₹4.24 lakh crore. The sector has created nearly 25 lakh jobs, of which the mobile segment accounts for about 12 lakh, and women constitute nearly 70 % of the direct mobile‑manufacturing workforce. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted over ₹20,600 crore in investments, generating 5.3 lakh jobs, including 90,000 women, and boosting exports beyond ₹6.53 lakh crore.
