India-Australia Civil Nuclear Cooperation

The Third India‑Australia Annual Summit in Melbourne on 9 July 2026 culminated in the finalisation of an Administrative Arrangement under the India‑Australia Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement. The arrangement enables long‑term export of Australian uranium to India for peaceful purposes, with all shipments under IAEA safeguards. Australia, which holds over one‑third of global uranium resources, will thus provide a reliable fuel source for India’s expanding nuclear power programme, which aims for 100 GW capacity by 2047 under the SHANTI Act. The agreement also reinforces India’s strategic partnership with Australia and supports India’s net‑zero and energy‑security objectives.
