Vice President launches national programme for issuance of Letters of Authorisation for Sustainable Harnessing of Fisheries in the High Seas

The Vice‑President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, launched a national programme for issuing Letters of Authorisation (LoAs) to enable sustainable fishing in the High Seas and India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The launch took place in Bhubaneswar, where LoAs were presented to ten Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FPPOs). The programme aims to allow Indian fishermen to harvest high‑value species such as tuna, while emphasizing digital authorisation, vessel tracking and compliance with anti‑illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing measures. The Vice‑President highlighted that India, the world’s second‑largest fish producer, supports nearly three crore fishermen and recorded seafood exports of ₹73,000 crore in the last financial year.
