CCTV Surveillance Systems Provided at 3,215 Railway Stations and 13,409 Passenger Coaches to Strengthen Passenger Safety and Security
The Ministry of Railways reports that CCTV surveillance systems have been installed at 3,215 railway stations and 13,409 passenger coaches across India to strengthen passenger safety and security. Installation is phased, with all operational Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat train rakes already equipped with cameras. Zone‑wise data show Northern Railway leading with 425 stations and 1,483 coaches, while Western Railway tops coach installations with 1,735 coaches. The cameras incorporate AI‑based video analytics such as intrusion, loitering and fallen‑person detection. Between 2023 and June 2026, 9,840 security‑related incidents were detected through these systems. The information was provided by Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha.
NTPC announces Robust Financial Performance in Q1 FY27: Standalone PAT Up by 12%, Group PAT Up 13%
NTPC Ltd., the largest integrated power utility in India, released its unaudited Q1 FY27 results (quarter ended 30 June 2026). Stand‑alone total income rose 3 % to ₹44,512 crore, and PAT increased 12 % to ₹5,342 crore versus Q1 FY26. On a consolidated basis, group PAT grew 13 % to ₹6,896 crore, aided by a 62 % rise in profit from group companies (₹1,832 crore vs ₹1,131 crore). Coal plant plant‑load factor (PLF) reached 76.71 %, outpacing the rest‑of‑India coal PLF of 70.32 %. The release attributes growth to capacity additions, operational efficiencies and highlights NTPC’s leadership in the power sector.
EPFO Launches VISHWAS, 2026 and AMNESTY, 2026 to resolve legacy cases and promote voluntary compliance
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, has launched two one‑time schemes – VISHWAS, 2026 and AMNESTY, 2026 – effective from 29 June 2026 for a six‑month period. VISHWAS, 2026 offers employers a single chance to settle disputes related to damages and penalties under the Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952 and the Code on Social Security, 2020, with reduced damage rates for defaults before 14 June 2024, excluding cases involving fraud. AMNESTY, 2026 regularises legacy Provident Fund trusts lacking formal exemption, withdrawing pending proceedings on dues, damages and interest upon compliance. Applications are to be filed online via the EPFO Employer Portal, and EPFO Regional Office, Thane has set up help desks for assistance.
Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, addressing the 167th Income‑Tax Day, highlighted the implementation of the Income‑tax Act, 2025 as a landmark reform that simplifies the law, cuts compliance costs and boosts ease of doing business. She introduced the ‘5Rs of Responsive Tax Governance’ – Recognise, Respond, Redress, Reflect and Reform – as a framework to make tax administration fair, transparent and taxpayer‑centric, and called for greater tax certainty to shift focus from litigation management to litigation prevention. The Minister also announced six publications covering international taxation, FATCA/CRS guidance, crypto‑asset reporting and the APA programme, and underscored technology‑driven initiatives such as PAN 2.0, ITBA 2.0, IEC 3.0 and the SAKSHAM NUDGE framework.
Government Reiterates Legal Obligations of OTT Platforms and Social Media Under IT Rules, 2021
The Government has notified the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 under the Information Technology Act, 2000. Part III of these Rules obliges OTT platforms not to transmit any content that is prohibited by law. Part II imposes specific due‑diligence duties on intermediaries, including social‑media platforms, requiring them to make reasonable efforts to prevent the display, upload, hosting, storage, transmission or publication of unlawful information. This information was supplied by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L. Murugan in a written reply to an unstarred Rajya Sabha question raised by Shri Rajeev Kumar.

The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha noted that on 26 July 2026 the nation will observe Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War. The reference pays homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives and expresses gratitude to the armed forces for their courage, determination and dedication in defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Indian Railways Initiates AI-based Stain Detection Pilot Project in Laundries at Pune, Jaipur & Jodhpur Divisions to Enhance Quality of Washed Linen
The Ministry of Railways announced that Indian Railways is piloting AI‑based stain‑detection cameras in its laundry units at Pune (Central Railway) and Jaipur & Jodhpur (North Western Railway) divisions to verify the quality of washed linen. All mechanised laundries now use Whito‑Meters to assess cleaning effectiveness and have CCTV cameras for continuous monitoring. As part of the pilot, blanket‑cover sheets are being supplied to all AC‑class passengers on North Western Railway trains and the Vande Bharat Sleeper service (Kamakhya‑Howrah). The codal service life of linen items—e.g., 12 months for handloom bed sheets, 24 months for poly‑vastra bed sheets, 9 months for pillow covers and face towels, and 24 months for pillows and woollen blankets—is stipulated by railway rules. The information was conveyed by Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in a Rajya Sabha reply.
Two-day Orientation Programme for Newly Elected and Nominated Members of Rajya Sabha begins tomorrow
The Rajya Sabha Secretariat is conducting a two‑day interactive Orientation Programme for newly elected and nominated members on 25‑26 July 2026. The programme will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, with a welcome address by Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Shri Harivansh. Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan will deliver a keynote on members’ vision and responsibilities, while the Deputy Chairman will discuss the functions of key parliamentary committees. CBI Arrests Senior Executive of IRCTC Mumbai and Director of a Private Company in a bribery case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case on 22 July 2026 and arrested a senior executive of the IRCTC West Zone Office, Mumbai, and the director of M/s Araha Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, for alleged bribery. The public servant is accused of receiving cash payments of Rs 1,98,500 (21 April 2026) and Rs 2,00,000 (8 June 2026) in his Punjab National Bank account in exchange for facilitating the settlement of pending bills of the private company. During the investigation, the director was found with a bag containing Rs 4,49,500 and Rs 13,200, and incriminating WhatsApp chats were seized from their mobiles. Both were produced before a Special Court, which granted police custody until 27 July 2026.
STATUS OF URBAN HAAT PROGRAMME
The Ministry of Textiles, through the DC (Handicrafts) and DC (Handlooms), implements the National Handicrafts Development Programme and National Handloom Development Programme, jointly providing financial assistance for setting up Urban Haats that enable artisans and weavers to market their products directly. As of 24 July 2026, 28 Urban Haats are operational across India, including three in Rajasthan. This information was disclosed by Minister of State for Textiles Shri Pabitra Margherita in a written reply to a Rajya Sabha question.
Demonstration of Clean Hydrogen Production using nuclear heat at Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR), IGCAR
On 26 June 2026, IGCAR demonstrated the world’s first production of clean hydrogen using nuclear heat at the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR). The Copper‑Chlorine thermochemical cycle, developed by BARC, was coupled with the FBTR’s secondary sodium heating loop to generate carbon‑free hydrogen. The Ministry of Atomic Energy highlighted that this nuclear‑assisted hydrogen process can provide a stable baseload alternative to renewable‑powered electrolysis, supporting co‑generation of electricity and hydrogen, and aligning with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Net‑Zero targets. PARLIAMENT QUESTION: INDIA’S SPACE LAUNCH PROGRAMME
Between July 2023 and June 2026, India launched 12 launch‑vehicle missions, deploying 11 national satellites and 9 satellites for international customers. The Department of Space reported that private investment in India’s space sector has crossed USD 618.5 million as of 31 March 2026, with 105 authorisations granted to non‑government entities by 14 July 2026. Status of Telecom Infrastructure
The Government has approved the Amended BharatNet Program (ABP) on 04‑08‑2023, upgrading 13,494 Gram Panchayats (GPs) out of 2,65,014 planned, with 2,14,912 GPs already connected under BharatNet Phase‑I and Phase‑II as of June 2026. As of June 2026, 24,784 4G towers serve 35,022 villages/locations, including remote and border areas. The Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) Scheme, launched on 1 Oct 2022, supports R&D in communication technologies; 26 start‑up‑academia projects on 6G receive Rs.57 crore. The Department of Telecommunications has introduced Sanchar Saathi, a web portal and mobile app for reporting telecom fraud. PARLIAMENT QUESTION: ENHANCING NUCLEAR ENERGY GENERATION
The Department of Atomic Energy reported that the Parliament enacted the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Act, 2025, targeting 100 GW of nuclear capacity by 2047. In the past decade, 13 reactors (10,600 MW) have been at various construction stages, with four reactors (3,100 MW) now commercially operating at Kudankulam, Kakrapar and Rawatbhata. Four CSIR Technologies Licensed to Industry and Smart Rural Water Monitoring Technology Commercially Launched
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) held a Technology Transfer Event at its New Delhi headquarters, where four indigenous technologies – the Induction Motor Stethoscope (MSCOPE), Portable & Universal Motor‑cum‑Pump Performance Monitor (PU‑MPPM), i‑Power Quality Analyser (IPQA) and an Optical Module & Beam Combiner Assembly for Head‑Up Display (HUD) – were licensed to industry. The Optical Module was transferred to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), while the other three were licensed to Pump Academy Private Limited, Bengaluru. Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), launched in October 2022, is a mass movement under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change that seeks behavioural change through seven themes – Save Energy, Save Water, Reduce Waste, Reduce E‑Waste, Say No to Single‑Use Plastic, Adopt Healthy Lifestyles and Adopt Sustainable Food Systems. The initiative is listed as a qualitative goal in India’s NDCs under the Paris Agreement.
DRDO conducts successful maiden flight-test of ‘Kusha’ Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile
The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the maiden flight‑test of the ‘Kusha’ long‑range surface‑to‑air missile on 23 July 2026 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. The missile intercepted an electronic target that simulated a high‑speed, high‑altitude aerial threat. According to the release, the system can neutralise fighter jets, missiles, UAVs and large enemy aircraft across a wide range and altitude envelope, with all components—including missiles, radars and the command‑and‑control centre—developed by DRDO laboratories and industry partners. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the test as a milestone that reduces import dependence and boosts India’s air‑defence capability, while Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh monitored the launch and congratulated the team.
