The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has received Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approval to upgrade the Khagaria‑Purnea stretch of NH‑31 and NH‑231 in Bihar to a four‑lane highway at a cost of Rs. 3936.05 crore. The project aims to cut travel time from about 3.5‑4 hours to 1.5‑2 hours, incorporate flood‑resilient engineering (improved geometry, stronger pavement, modern drainage) and alleviate congestion in Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar and Purnea districts. It will link five PM Gati Shakti economic nodes (one textile cluster, two mega food parks, two fishing/seafood parks) and 11 logistics nodes (four rail stations, one airport, four national highways, two state highways), thereby enhancing multimodal connectivity for Bihar’s banana and makhana producers and strengthening links with West Bengal and Jharkhand.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti’s backgrounder notes that following the Prime Minister’s appeal in the 135th Mann Ki Baat (28 June 2026), a nationwide ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign ran from 4 July to 4 August 2026 to boost rain‑water harvesting, groundwater recharge, restoration of traditional water bodies and tree‑planting. The Indian Air Force will commence Exercise Pitch Black 2026 at the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin from 20 July to 7 August 2026. The biennial RAAF‑led multinational air combat exercise focuses on night flying over northern Australia. The IAF contingent will field Rafale fighters, supported by a C‑17 Globemaster‑III and an IL‑78 aerial refuelling aircraft, comprising pilots, engineers, technicians and controllers. The exercise aims to validate expeditionary air operations, enhance interoperability, and strengthen professional partnerships across the Indo‑Pacific region. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has taken suo motu action against 41 restaurants nationwide for automatically levying service charge without consumers’ explicit consent, based on complaints filed through the National Consumer Helpline. Investigations found the practice breached the Guidelines to Prevent Unfair Trade Practices (issued 4 July 2022) and amounted to an unfair trade practice under Section 2(47) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The delegation included two leaders from HBCSE‑TIFR and two scientific observers. Out of 307 participants from 78 countries, 31 gold, 61 silver and 91 bronze medals were awarded. India’s team of four students secured gold medals in all four entries at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 10‑19 July 2026. The medalists were Debadatta Priyadarshi (Odisha), Harshit Singla (Punjab), Kabeer Chillar (Delhi) and Sandeep Kuchi (Telangana). The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways is constructing the 160.18 km Rameshwar‑Paradeep Coastal Highway in Odisha at a capital cost of ₹8,300.79 crore. The project includes a 4‑lane access‑controlled stretch from Rameshwar to Konark and a 2‑lane stretch from Konark to Paradeep, designed for 100 km/h. It will cut travel time between Rameshwar and Paradeep by about 2 hours 30 minutes, improve passenger and freight movement, and link Khurda, Puri, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur districts. The highway is intended to boost pilgrimage access to Jagannath Temple, Konark Sun Temple and Ramchandi Temple, promote coastal tourism—including beaches, biodiversity hotspots and Gahirmatha turtle nesting sites—and stimulate local economies through hotels, homestays, restaurants and handicraft markets, aligning with PM GatiShakti by connecting nine economic and five logistics nodes.

The Government of India is implementing the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) scheme, jointly by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, to enhance safety, dignity and social security for sanitation workers. The scheme promotes mechanised cleaning, skill development, health insurance (including Ayushman Bharat), PPE distribution and financial assistance for self‑employment. To date, 89,915 sewer and septic‑tank workers and 2,81,117 waste pickers have been validated; 87,037 PPE kits and 1,84,118 PPE kits have been supplied respectively, and health cards issued to 76,845 and 1,04,729 workers.
